Laura Brienza Laura Brienza was born in Maplewood, New Jersey and raised in Tokyo, Paris, and Indiana before attending Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She graduated in December 2009 with a degree in English and a minor in Theatre and Performance Studies. She studied playwriting under Karen Zacarias (LEGACY OF LIGHT), directing and adaptation under Derek Goldman (IN DARFUR), and poetry under Carolyn Forche (LA Times Book Award winner). Brienza's plays include full lengths WAR ZONES (Capital Fringe, FringeNYC 2010), THEN AND NOW (Naked Angels, Tuesdays@9), and SCARED OF SARAH (Kennedy Center Page-to-Stage New Play Festival, Lark Play Development Center, FringeNYC 2011), as well as the one-acts THE FIRST THANKSGIVING and THE FIRST IMPRESSION. She is currently adapting SCARED OF SARAH for the screen and writing a new play investigating cross-dressing in Afghanistan. Brienza is the author of the news and poetry project "All The Poems That Are Fit To Print" and received the Ora Mary Phelam Poetry Prize in 2009. On Brienza, nytheatre.com said, "Laura Brienza has vision, talent, a unique point of view, and an exciting dynamic voice. She's also got a playwright's ability to make her audience think, without preaching at them. She's a real find."
