David Caudle is a native of Miami, Florida, where three of his plays have premiered at New Theatre. Miami is the setting for his best-known play, The Sunken Living Room (Samuel French), and for Visiting Hours (Premiere Stages Finalist, Weissberger Nominee), which premieres March 29 in New Orleans (Rising Shiners, Mid-City Theatre. In the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writers Group at Primary Stages, he developed the new musical Show People (Anna Sosenko Grant),, as well as several plays, including Leg Man (S.T.A.G.E. Finalist 2010), Likeness, South Beach Rapture, Damsel (SPF Finalist), The Common Swallow, and Downward Facing Debbie. He also taught playwriting in Primary Stages’ ESPA school of theatre.

Recent New York outings: The opera electronica One Hot Kitchen, at the Medicine Show Theatre, produced by the Metropolis Opera Project, and The Short Fall premiered by Toy Box Theatre Company. Caudle has developed work at the New Harmony Project, Downstage Miami, and the Sewanee Writers Conference. His recently completed screenplay, Major Conflict is based on Jeffrey McGowan's highly-regarded book Major Conflict: One Gay Man's Life in the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Military (Random House).

He studied at Middlebury College, Florida State University and the University of Connecticut (MFA Scenic Design). An accomplished painter, his work has appeared on film, tv and on broadway stages, in anything from Men in Black 3 to Madonna's video, Nothing Really Matters, to the distressed peasants on the Coast of Utopia.
