From the Author:

I wrote The Moon in the Man based on romantic escapades I was having in the world of gay dating, and once I became involved with someone, how I had to start to define new boundaries between myself and a good friend of mine. It was hard to know when love blended into affection, blended into lust, blended into…well, it all got very confusing. To top it off, my dear mother, who I adored, and was completely over involved with, was always drinking wildly, and having to be talked off the ledge so she wouldn’t “end it all.” That was a speed bump for a lot of dates. Then I met Michael, fell in love with him immediately, and he is still the love of my life.

Today, in the world of the cybersearch for love, both the possibilities for courage and deception abound. However, how ever you meet someone, once you’ve met, you’ve met, and, if it’s love at first sight, well, then, it’s love at first sight. Faithful to the genre, the play, of course, has a happy ending. However, my love life has had a happy ending. This is a gay, romantic comedy, about the beginning of just that.

Excerpt from The Moon in the Man

(Time: The present. Lights rise to reveal in bed, Kenny, 24, is on the phone. Someone lies in the bed with him, sleeping.)

KENNY

OK, OK, so, I woke you up...So, I woke you up in the middle of the night...He's here!...What do you mean, who? Him! Mr. Gorgeous Eyes. Mr. Mystical Eyes. He's finally here. I've been holding him. And when he got...excited...I swear, I've never seen anyone's face get so intense, oh my God, it was like...Yes, of course I'm safe...mother!...Mom, don't cry, come on...Look, there is no reason to live, that's what's so fabulous. You can just make up your own reason instead of there being some kind of like universal reason that you just have to conform to...Don't take the pills. Mom, if you kill yourself right now, I swear, I will never forgive you.

(Paul moves a little.)

Oh, oh. He's waking up. I got to go. Can you kill yourself later?...Yes, I promise I'll call you back...I promise!

(Kenny hangs up. Paul, 28, pokes his head out from under the covers. He looks at Kenny, leaps out of the bed and starts getting dressed, putting on a suit and tie.)

PAUL

Oh my God, you're a person.

KENNY

Let me look. Oh my God, you're right.

PAUL

You're not a web-site.

Finally, someone who understands.
